Frequently Asked Questions
What ages can participate?
KFAD offers programs for a variety of age groups:
-
KinderFAD: Ages 4–7
-
Productions, classes, and workshops: Ages 7–18
-
Select teen programs: Up to age 21
Does my child need experience to participate?
No prior experience is required. KFAD welcomes students of all skill levels, whether they’re trying theater for the first time or have been performing for years.
Will my child get a part?
Yes. KFAD is an educational theater program, and every student who participates in a production is cast in the show.
While roles vary in size, all students are part of the ensemble and contribute to the overall performance. Our goal is to create a positive, inclusive experience where every student has the opportunity to grow and be part of the production.
What does my child actually do in a production?
Students participate in rehearsals leading up to the performance, learning music, choreography, and staging. Each production includes a rehearsal process, a tech week, and live performances.
How do auditions work?
Audition processes vary by program:
-
Main Stage productions: Students participate in an audition workshop during registration
-
Summer Musicals & Plays: Students register first, then sign up for a separate audition time. Each production will have its own audition requirements that will be included with the sign-up link.
Auditions are designed to be supportive and educational, helping students feel prepared and confident.
When do programs open for registration?
KFAD programs run on a seasonal schedule, and registration timelines vary by program type.
-
Spring production: Signups open in January, with registration workshops in early February
-
Summer programs: Announced in late January or early February, with auditions scheduled later in the spring
-
Fall production: Signups open in late July or early August, with registration workshops in mid-August
-
Winter production: Announced in early fall, with auditions held in November
-
Classes & workshops: Released seasonally, typically one season in advance
Because many programs fill quickly, we recommend watching for announcements and registering early.
